Zak Ové | Trinidad & Tobago

Born in 1966, in London, UK,
Lives and works between the UK and Trinidad & Tobago.
Sculpture, photography, documentary maker, director

Holder of a BA in “Film as Fine Art” from the Central St. Martins College of Art & Design of London, UK (1987).

He was artist in residence for three months in the CCA7 (Caribbean Centre Arts) of Laventille, Trinidad & Tobago, thanks to a grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation of New York (2007) as well as artist in residence in sculpture at the 3D Foundation of Verbier, Switzerland (2011).

His last individual shows include : Twice is Too Much at the Freies Museum of Berlin, Germany (2010) ; Past Future at the Fine Art Society of London, UK (2010) ; Blue Devils: Works from the Transfigura Series at Real Art Ways in Hartford, USA (2009) and Black & White Nudes at the Carte Blanche Gallery in London, UK (2008).

Regarding his participation to collective exhibitions, his work was showcased in : London Twelve (London 12) at the City Gallery of Praga, Czech Republic (2012) ; Voices of Home at the Jenkins Johnson Gallery in New York, USA (2012) ; Carnaval & Mascarades at the Musée Dapper in Paris, France (2011-2012) ; Sculpture Today – New Forces, New Forms at the Frederik Meijer Sculpure Park of Michigan, USA (2011) ; The Minotaur at the Laziredes Gallery of London, UK (2011) ; Are you a Hybrid at the Museum of Art & Design of New York, USA (2011) ; Afrodizzia at the TATE Britain in London (2010) ; We Are Not Witches at the Saatchi Gallery in London, UK (2010) ; Tough Love at the Plataforma Revólver of Lisbon, Portugal (2010) and Rockstone and Bootheel at Real Art Ways in Hartford, USA (2009).

Zak Ové also participated in the travelling shows Africa See you See Me (Lisbon – Portugal, Roma & Firenze – Italy, Beijing – China) and Encounters of Bamako (Bamako – Mali, Cape Town – South Africa, Brussels & Antwerp – Belgium).

His work was featured in VOLTA New York and Art Miami in 2011 as well as in the World Festival of Black Arts in Dakar, Senegal in 2010.
