Tony Capellán | Dominican Republic

Born in 1955 in Tamboril, Dominican Republic
Lives and works in New York, USA
Sculpture, installation

Recovering abandoned objects particularly along the coastline is a constant source of inspiration for the artist. He interrogates through these assembled fragments the Dominican identity and the Caribbean one as a whole.

The paradise-like image benefitting the islands of the Caribbean is put into question by these residues recovered in urban and natural space and which stage the poverty and precariousness of these islands, miles away from touristic clichés.

Graduated from the Escuela de Arte of the Universidad Autonoma in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and of the Art Student League of New York, USA.
