Thierry Alet | Guadeloupe FWI

Born in 1969, in Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe,
Lives and works between Basse-Terre and New York.
Painting, drawing, installation.

Graduated from the IRAVM (Institut Régional d’Art Visuel) of Fort-de-France, Martinique (1992) ;  and holder of an MA. in Fine Arts from the Pratt Institute, New York, USA (1996).

He is recipient of grants from the Andy Warhol Foundation (2012), the DRAC of Martinique (Regionale Division of Cultural Affairs), the Pollock Krasner Foundation and the Conseil Général de Guadeloupe.

Thierry Alet is the founder of the association Frère Indépendant, based in New York, that organized particularly the PooL Art Fair, contemporary art fairs dedicated to promoting French West Indian artists in the USA ; and the DiVa Digital & Video Art Fair (since 2003). The PooL Art Fair are presented in New York, Miami, Guadeloupe and Martinique.

Frère Indépendant also created and launched the Galerie T&T Art Contemporain in Jarry, Guadeloupe.

In 2012, Thierry Alet became “chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres” (honorific title) of the French Republic.
