Born in 1981 in San Juan, Puerto Rico,
Lives and works in Bayamón, Puerto Rico

Graduated in Natural Sciences, Human Biology (Hons.) from the University of Puerto Rico, Bayamón campus (2004), and holder of a MFA in Theory and Practice of Contemporary Art, Video Art and Photography from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, Spain (2006).

In 2005, the Instituto de Cultura de Puerto Rico gives her a grant to study in Madrid.

In 2008 and in 2011, she was artist in residence at the space AREA – Lugar de Proyectos in Caguas, Puerto Rico.

Myritza Castillo also participated in the Video Art Festival, Loop in Barcelona, Spain (2010, 2008), in the 10th Velada de Santa Lucía in Maracaibo, Venezuela (2010), as well as in the 7th International Short Film Festival of Puerto Rico (2009), in the Kagart Video Festival of Istanbul, Turkey (2008)…

Regarding art fairs, her work was featured in the NADA Art Fair in Miami, USA (2009), in CIRCA Puerto Rico (2007-2009) and in the Photo Miami Fair, USA (2007).

In the framework of the FemLink project, The International Video Collagess, the videos of Myritza Castillo have been aired around the world since 2007. FemLink is a network of 149 women video artists, coming from 64 countries. 8 themes of work have been chosed along the years : fragility (2006), resistance (2007), worries (2008), man (2009), wonder, vital, aggression, portrait of a woman artist (on-going) and protest (upcoming). The principle is simple. Each artist realizes a 1 to 2 minutes video, and the whole get united under the form of a “collage” with the videos of the other artists.

Lately, thanks to FemLink, Myritza Castillo exhibited her videos at the Photon gallery in Ljubljana, Slovenia (2012) ; at the XVA Gallery Bastakiya of Dubai, at the TAC Art Center of Eindhoven in The Netherlands, at the Espace 60 in Annecy in France and at the Cinema Kino Udarnik of Maribor in Slovenia (2011) ; at the Lynn Arts Center, USA, at the Museum of Occupations of Talinn in Estonia, at the Project Room Arte Actual / FLACSO of Quito, Ecuador (2010) ; in the Palestinian territories, in Bourges in France, in Boston in the USA, in New Hampshire and Missouri (2009) ; in Bucarest in Roumania, in Budapest in Hungary, in Mar de Plata in Argentina (2008)…


Myritza Castillo’s artworks are contained in the collections of the following institutions : Museo de Arte de Ponce, Puerto Rico ; National Gallery of Praga, Czech Republic ; University of Puerto Rico ; Museo de Bellas Artes Alcalá de Henares, Spain ; Oriental Group Bank ; and in some Puerto Rican private collections such as Chilo & Millie Andreu, Reyes Veray, Alberto & María de la Cruz, Javier Nuñez & Ofelia Marin.


Myritza Castillo received the Lexus Prize for her project Out of Oil at the Museo de Arte of Puerto Rico (2009-2010).
