Installation at 198 Contemporary Arts & Learning ,

The first space of the exhibition is occupied by an installation that recreates the packed shelving of a typical black orientated hair and cosmetic product ‘beauty’ shop with authentic products and hairpieces. The second space has six plinths (three female and three male) onto which there are different alters of hair related objects and toys, alongside a full-length mirror where visitors can view themselves as they listen to a series of anonymous edited interviews with black men and women, hairdressers and barbers via headphones. In the middle of the room is a low square plinth with foral carpet onto is placed a parrafin heater and hot iron comb and chair. A series of short films are also projected in this space onto one of the walls.
