In 2008, Irène Lichtenstein realizes the documentary Mario Benjamin, le film – that won the Best Documentary Award at the International Festival of Black Film in Montréal in 2009.

With the group Atis Rezistans, the Grand Rue of Port-au-Prince trio of sculptors, Mario Benjamin creates the Freedom Sculpture in commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of the Abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, in 2006.

Biennials, fairs

Mario Benjamin exhibited his work in the 54th Venice Biennial, in 2011, with Haiti Kingdom of this world, in the first Haitian pavillion, as well as in the 10th (2009) and 7th (1997) Havana Biennials. In 2010, he is invited by the Biennial of African Art Dak’Art altogether with Maksaens Denis, Barbara Prézeau-Stephenson and Jean Hérard Céleur. The artist also participated in the Biennial of Gwangju, South Korea (2008) ; to the 52d (2007) and 49th (2001) Venice Biennial – in the African pavillion ; in the 4th Caribbean Biennial in Santo Domingo (2001) and in the 24th São Paulo’s Biennial in Brazil (1998).

His artworks were showcased in the Black Festival Art Show in New York (2001, 2006-2009), in Art Miami and in Art Paris Art Fair.

He was part of the show of the 50th Salon d’Art Contemporain of Montrouge, France in 2005.

In 2010, Mario Benjamin receives a Prize from the Fondation Blachère of Apt in France.

Mario Benjamin exhibits in the International Pavilion of the BIAC Martinique, Biennale Internationale d’Art Contemporain, which first edition is held from November 22, 2013 to January 15, 2014 and which theme is “On the Resonance of the Literary Outcry in the Visual Arts“. For this need, Uprising travelled to the Martinique from November 19 to 26 to report on the event and conduct a series of interviews of the organizing team, the invited curators, the artists in residency and the artists from the International and Martinican Pavilions.
