Graduated in MA in Studio Art from the Smith College of Northampton, Massachusetts, USA (2008). Malaika Brooks-Smith-Lowe is currently following a Master in « Cultural Studies » from the ‘University of the West Indies (U.W.I.) in St Augustine, Trinidad & Tobago (2012).

In 2013, Malaika Brooks-Smith-Lowe is artist-in-residency at Fresh Milk in Barbados.

She is recipient of an investigation grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation (2006-2008). She is part of the Official Selection 2012 and is “Sponsored Guest Director/Animator” in the Caribbean Tales Film Festival of Barbados.

In 2012, she is the founder of the GroundGlass Collective, Caribbean Region & Diaspora.

In parallel of her artistic activity, Malaika Brooks-Smith-Lowe is co-founder and director of Groundation Grenada.

Malaika Brooks-Smith-Lowe participates into several collective exhibitions :

Fresh Milk X ~ Artist Residence Screening at the Milking Parlour Studio of St. George, Barbados (2013) ; A Negation of Preconception at Fresh Milk, Barbados (2012) ; More than XY at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre of London, UK (2012) ; Home & Away at the Gallery in Paddock, St George, Grenada with the association WoMa (2012) ; Grenada 1979-1983 at the Grenada Arts Council Gallery in St George, Grenada (2011) ; Forever Forged. Forever Becoming at the Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf in London, UK (2011) during the AACDD Festival ; Women Make Art at the Grenada Arts Council Gallery of St George, Grenada with the association WoMa (2011).

Her photographs were published in ARC Magazine or Caribbean Beat Magazine.

In 2011, Malaika Brooks-Smith-Lowe receives the 3d prize during the Caribbean Regional Agriculture & Science Film Competition in Trinidad.
