Lilliam Nieves | Puerto Rico

Born in 1975 in Bayamón, Puerto Rico,
Lives and works in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.

Holder of a BFA in Education of the Art from the Escuela de Artes Plásticas of Puerto Rico and of a MFA in New Media from the Transart Institute Berlin, Germany / New York, USA.

Lilliam Nieves is recipient of several grants from the Efrain Lopito López Fund (2011), or from the Friends of Transart Institute (2009), or from the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña (2008).

She is artist in residence at the Tanzfabrik of Berlin, Germany (2011, 2009) ; at the Winter Residency of New York, USA (2010, 2009) and at the OK Offenes Kulturhaus Oberösterreich in Linz, Austria (2008).

She is the founder of the e-magazine Trance Liquido, on art, medias and design, altogether with Daniel Arnaldo Roman.

Her last individual shows include : Comuna, Art Tracking Project at the Galería Candela of San Juan, Puerto Rico (2007) ; Superficie Infantil de una Genética Frustrada at the Galería OP in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico (2001) and Saturados desde el Saco at the ? (The Question Bar) in San Juan, Puerto Rico (2000).

Regarding her participation to collective exhibitions, her work was showcased in : Calliope for the 9 Muses Project at The Truck Space of Phoenix, USA (2012) ; Vívidos/sodiviV at the Museo de Arte de Caguas, Puerto Rico (2011) ; Not Festival: On Horns, hair, hens, haze and other (Orgi)antic things project in New York, USA (2011) ; the travelling show The Sketchbook Project in the USA (2011) ; Santurce es Ley 2 at the Galería ofSan Juan, Puerto Rico (2010) ; Tipografía, Festival de la Palabra 2010 at the Museo de las Américas of San Juan, Puerto Rico (2010) ; Sex Sells at the Obra Galeria Alegría in San Juan, Puerto Rico (2010) ; Chiquitolina 2009… pequeño formato at the Centro Curatorial La 15 in Santurce, Puerto Rico (2010) ; Flunking Calculus at the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago, USA (2010) ; Absurdo at the Centro Curatorial La 15 in Santurce, Puerto Rico (2008) and Publica 2 at AREA : Lugar de Proyectos in Caguas, Puerto Rico (2008).

Lilliam Nieves also participated in The Hive – the 3d Trienal Poli/grafica de San Juan in Puerto Rico (2012) and in its 1st edition in 2004.

Her work was featured in the art fairs Scope Miami (2008) or CIRCA Puerto Rico (2007).

Lilliam Nieves’ artworks are contained in the collections of the following institutions :

Brooklyn Art Library, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, UBS Puerto Rico, and some private collections such as the Liza Ladner, Reyes Veray or Hernández Castrodad.
