Graduated from the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro, Cuba (1976), he completed his training in the Institute of Museology of Havana, Cuba (1986).

In 1999, he was artist in residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta, Canada.

In 1989, José Manuel Fors received the Gold Medal of the 49 International Contest of Photography in Japan. In 1999, he is decorated with the Cuban Distinction for National Culture in Havana, Cuba.

José Manuel Fors answered to our questions in Havana, during the 11th Biennial. He explained the influence of museology in the creation of his artworks, he shared with us his thoughts at the time of creating a piece and how he does it, acting like a real archaeologist. He also developed about his recurrent circular compositions.
