Jason Mena | Puerto Rico

Born in 1974 in New York, USA,
Lives and works in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Graduated in fine arts and painting from the Escuela de Artes Plasticas of San Juan, Puerto Rico (2006).

Jason Mena was rewarded the Special Prize of the 5th International Art Prize Arte Laguna of Venice, Italy in 2011 and a Prize from the AICA (International Association of Art Critics) in 2006.

He was recipient of a grant from the Lexus for the Arts in Puerto Rico (2008) and was a fellow of the Arnaldo Roche Rabell Foundation (2002). In 2012, he was honoured a grant that allowed him to pursue his training in fine arts at the Bard College of New York, USA.

In 2011, he was artist in residence twice – first, at the Hotel Charleroi, B.P.S. 22 Contemporary Art Centre in Belgium, second at the Centro ADM of México DF, Mexico.

His last individual shows include : On the Move at Trailer Park Projects in San Juan, Puerto Rico (2011) ; Lights out for the territory at the Centro ADM in México DF, Mexico (2011) ; We all shall play in the ruins at the Luis Adelantado Gallery in Valencia, Spain (2010) and A visual representation through the exploration of sound at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo of Puerto Rico (2009).

Jason Mena also participated in The Hive – the 3rd Trienal Poli/grafica de San Juan in Puerto Rico (2012) ; in the 6th Drawing Contest of the Arte Arawak Foundation in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (2007) ; in the New Media Festival in the Hardcore Art Contemporary Space  in Miami, USA (2007).

His work was featured in the art fairs ARCOmadrid in 2011, MadridFoto in 2010 and ZonaMACO in 2010 and 2011.

His artworks can be found in the Colección Reyes-Veray and in the Jimenez-Colon Collection.
