James Cooper presents four photographs

The four photographs presented are from different series.

1) This is from a series ,” Carnival of One” , that I made into a video that showed at the Trinidad and Tobago film Festival 2012 / New Media show. For this series I made ‘masks’ with different materials, in this case ham, on top of the same photographic print./span>

2) This series of underwater sculptures was looking at our relationship with sand and also my own personal relationships and how there is a level of hiding and magic. This was made with a friend of mine and a plastic bag full of sand.

3) In this group of pictures I was thinking about fetish and superstition, and how we assign importance to random things in life This is a rock fish head, gold leaf , balloon , feathers and flowers.

4) This is from a series of helmet sculptures, and was questioning portraiture in general, but also how our ideas of our tropical island culture can be very restricting.

James Cooper is a Bermudian artist, working in photography for the past 5 years.

“In general, I like to bring together objects from my life that do not usually find themselves together, and create a temporary sculpture of sorts.

I have recently shown my work in Haiti (ghetto Biennale), Trinidad (Alice yard), U.K. (Brighton Photo Fringe), New York (New York Photo Festival) as well as being featured in numerous magazines including ARC magazine in the Caribbean and in the book Pictures From Paradise, contemporary Caribbean Photography“.
