Hervé Beuze | Martinique FWI

Born in 1970 in Fort-de-France, Martinique,
Lives and works in Fort-de-France, Martinique
Sculpture, installation, painting

Hervé Beuze is a visual artist that convenes in his practice several mediums of contemporary creation, such as painting, sculpture or monumental installation. His more recent artistic commitment shows a pondering on identities, memories and the space of his island. He creates a metaphorical language by combining raw materials from his place, charged of symbolical meaning, to express the identity of a Martinique, in constant mutation, arosen out of a strong past and in direct contact with the World.

The notions he favours are the tension, the vertical height, the energy, the concentrated, the multiple, the fragment, the explosion, the intense, the saturated.

Graduated from the IRAVM (Institut Régional d’Art Visuel) of Fort-de-France, Martinique (1997).

Currently, he is professor for “volume” at the Campus des Arts Caribéens (former IRAVM), scenographer for theatre plays (as well as costume designer, props man…), designer, illustrator and he realized several monumental constructions for the carnival in Fort-de-France, Martinique.

In 2002, he participates to the Madinina Workshop organized by the Triangle Art Trust.

In 2012-2013, Hervé Beuze was on residency in Gorée, Senegal, under the aegis of the Dapper Museum in Paris, France, for the Mémoires (memories) project.
