Frantz Jacques, aka Guyodo | Haiti

Born in 1973, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti,
Lives and works in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Guyodo is one of the sculptors from the Grand’Rue in Port-au-Prince altogether with Jean Hérard Celeur and André Eugène.

Together, and with Mario Benjamin, they created the Freedom Sculpture in commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of the Abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, in 2006.

His last individual shows include : Guyodo, artiste haïtien in the Cloître of the Musée de la vie wallonne in Liège, Belgium (2010) ; Guyodo at the Bourbon-Lally Gallery in Port-au-Prince, Haiti (2009) and Porte Ouverte sur l’univers de Guyodo at the Centre Culturel AfricAmérica in Port-au-Prince, Haiti (2004).

Regarding his participation to collective exhibitions, his work was showcased in : Transe-Figuration at the Ateliers Jérôme in Port-au-Prince (2011-2012) ; Haiti : Kingdom of this World during the 54th Venice Biennial, in Paris, Miami, Martinique & Haiti (2011-2013) ; Kreyol Factory in the Grande Halle de la Villette, Paris, France (2009) ; Mythologies at Haunch of Venison in London, UK (2009) ; Le Vaudou : un art de vivre at the Musée d’Ethnographie of Geneva, Switzerland (2008) ; Urban Alchemy at the Gallery Macondo in Pittsburgh, USA (2008) ; Vodou Riche at the Colombia College of Chicago, USA (2007) ; Fête de la Sculpture at the Institut Français d’Haïti (2007 and 2005) ; The Sculptors of Grand Rue at The Foundry in London, UK (2006) and Lespri Endepandan, Discovering Haitian Sculpture at the Frost Art Museum dof Florida University, USA (2004).

Guyodo participated in the 54th Venice Biennial in the first Haitian pavilion. His work was also showcased in Arteaméricas Miami in 2006 and in the outsider art fair of New York in 2006. He participated in the 4th Forum Transculturel d’Art Contemporain of the MUPANAH – Musée du Panthéon National Haïtien (2006).

His artworks are in the collections of the Frost Art Museum of Florida University, USA.
