Graduated in arts applied to industry in Fort-de-France, Martinique, specialized in ceramics (1962) and in graphic arts from the Ecole des Arts Appliqués à l’Industrie of Paris, France (1968). Ernest Breleur completes his training by a BFA and a MA in visual arts, with a dissertation on the social function of art, at the University of Paris 8, France (1972).

From 1984 to 1989, Ernest Breleur is a member of the collective Fromajé, that he had contributed to create.

In 2010, he curates the show Flore-Raisons nouvelles at the Fondation Clément in Martinique.

Ernest Breleur took part to the 8th (2003), 5th (1994) and 2d (1986) Havana’s Biennial, Cuba ; to the 24th (1998) and 22th (1994) Biennial of São Paulo, Brazil ; to the 1st (1992) and 2d (1994) Caribbean Biennial in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic ; as well as in the Biennial of Cuenca, Ecuador in 1994 and to the 1st Biennial of Dakar, Senegal (1992).

His work has been presented to the National Black Art Festival in Atlanta, USA (1994) and at the Rencontres Internationales de Photographie d’Arles, France (1994).
