L’histoire d’Haïti et ses traditions culturelles comme la place du vaudou, les mythologies ou l’influence africaine, ainsi que les instabilités politiques et les difficultés économiques du pays, sont autant de thèmes chers à Édouard Duval-Carrié.

L’artiste lui-même confie à la Bernice Steinbaum Gallery qu’il a « essayé d’analyser le contexte historique de la genèse de cette île-pays partielle, regardé les souffrances qu’a engendré la société esclavagiste » et en a nourri son travail artistique interrogeant l’héritage d’Haïti, son patrimoine, et ses dynamiques.

Graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts of Paris, France (1989).

He is the recipient of the Visual Arts Prize from the Southern Arts Federation (1996).

Edouard Duval-Carrié is also a curator.

His last individual shows include : The Three Dimensional Gods and Goddesses Meet Their Cousins The Trees at the Bernice Steinbaum Gallery in Miami, USA (2012) ; Edouard Duval Carrié: My life as a Tree at the Cynergi  in Miami, USA (2010) ; Mostly Mutants at the Bernice Steinbaum Gallery in Miami, USA (2009) ; Continental Shifts: The Art of Edouard Duval Carrie at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Jacksonville, USA (2008) ; Edouard Duval-Carrie Cosmos: Une Petite Restrospective at the Bakehouse Art Complex  in Miami, USA (2007) and Divine Revolution The Art of Edouard Duval-Carrie at the Orlando Museum of Art, USA (2006).

Regarding his participation to collective exhibitions, his work was showcased in : the travelling shows of the project « The Global Caribbean » including Haiti : Kingdom of this World at the 54th Venice Biennial, in Paris and Miami (2011-2012) and Caribbean Trilogy-Focus on the Greater Antilles à Miami (2010) and Focus on the Global Caribbean Landscape in Miami, Sète, Puerto Rico and Martinique (2009) ; Restoring the Spirit – Celebrating Haitian Art at the Figge Art Museum of Iowa, USA (2011-2012) ; Big Juicy Paintings (and more): Selections from the Permanent Collection at the Miami Art Museum in Miami, USA (2007) or the travelling show Sacred Arts of Haitian Voodoo that toured all the USA (1995).

Édouard Duval-Carrié participated in the Habana, Venice, or São Paulo Biennials.

His artworks are in the collections of the Lowe Art Museum in Miami, the Musée de Panthéon National Haïtien in Port-au-Prince, or the Miami Art Museum.
