Coco Fusco holds a B.A. in literature & society / semiotics (double major, with honours) from the Brown University of Providence, USA (1982) as well as in Modern Thought and Literature from the Stanford University of Stanford, USA (1985). She completed her Ph.D. in Art & Visual Culture from the Middlesex University of London, UK (2007).

In 2000, she receives the Tyler School of Art (from Temple University of Philadelphia) Merit Award for Outstandig Research.

In 1995, she is recipient of the ATHE research award for her « outstanding journal article », and the same year, her book English is Not Broken Here is rewarded by the Critics’ Choice Award from the American Educational Studies Association.

Coco Fusco is associate professor of Fine Arts at the School of Art, Media, and Technology of Parsons, The New School of Design in New York, USA, since 2008.

She was visiting associate profressor to the spanish department and for the Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race at Columbia University in New York (2006-2008). In the same university, she held the position of associate professor in the visual arts division (2001-2006). Before that, she was assistant professor and associate of the painting, drawing and sculpture departmenets of the Tyler School of Art in the Temple University of Philadelphia (1995-2001).

Three times (2000, 2002  and 2007), she was Critical Studies tutor for the Whitney Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum.

Coco Fusco is also on the board of administration of crucial institutions. She is still active in the Franklin Furnace foundation (since 2006), in the PEN American Center and is part of the editorial committees of the Cultural Politics Journal (since 2004), of the Performance Research Journal (1998) or of the NKA: Journal of Contemporary African Art (since 1999).

Coco Fusco curated several exhibitions, in addition to being an artist herself :
Only Skin Deep: Changing Visions Of The American Self at the International Center of Photography of New York, at the Seattle Art Museum and at the San Diego Museum of Art (2003) ; Mexico In Black And White: The Cinematography Of Gabriel Figueroa at the Brooklyn Museum in New York (1998) and Corpus Delecti at the London’s Institute for Contemporary Art, England (1998).

Her activity also extended to managing projects of video art, and the projection of these, such as : Black American Short Films And Videos at the German festival Oberhausen International Festival of Short Film (1993) ; The Hybrid State Film Series at the Anthology Film Archives (1991) ; Black In A White World at the Gallery Association of New York State (1990).

Coco Fusco is author of A Field Guide For Female Interrogators, Seven Stories Press (2008) ; The Bodies that Were Not Ours and Other Writings, Routledge/INIVA (2001) and English is Not Broken Here: Notes on Cultural Fusion in the Americas, The New Press (1995).

She edited the following books : Only Skin Deep: Changing Visions of the American Self¸Harry Abrams Publishers (2003) and Corpus Delecti: Performance Art of the Americas, Routledge (1999).
