Graduated in History and Geography of the Caribbean at the Catholic University of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The dominican section of the AICA (International Association of Art Critics) rewards him with the Best Criticism Prize in the Media (2007 and 2001) and with the Best Curating Award (2006).

Amable López Meléndez has been the Chief Curator of the Museo de Arte Moderno of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic since 2009. In this framework, he curated, amongst others : the retrospective on Elsa Nuñez (2012) ; Memorias & Deconstrucciones by Evelyn Espaillat (2012) ; the performance festival INDEPENDENCE-DO (2012) ; Ensimismados by Raúl Morilla (2012) or formerly re-Vuelta by Raquel Paiewonsky (2007)…

He gets involved in several other projects such as the exhibition Fuera del Laberinto by Roberto Berroa at the Mesa Fine Art Gallery in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (2012) or Caos y Conclusión : arte de incertidumbre at the Museo de Arte Moderno of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in the framework of Charo Oquet Edge Zones project (2011).

From 2006 to 2009, he was president of the dominican section of the AICA.

He was jury for numerous contests such as the 22d Biennial of Visual Arts in Dominican Republic (2003).
In 2010, Amable López Meléndez was part of the  curatorial team of the 1st Caribbean Triennial in of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and the same year he was responsible for selecting Dominican artists for the ArteAméricas artfair in Miami.

In 1992, he had selected artists for the 1st Caribbean Biennial organized by the Museo de Arte Moderno of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Amable López Meléndez is editor for the contemporary art section of  Areito, the cultural supplement to the dominican newspaper Hoy and director of the Caribbean section of the magazine Arte Al Día, based in Buenos Aires in Argentina and Miami in the USA. He cooperates often with the magazine ArtNotes in Barcelona, Spain and New York, USA.

In 2009, he gives a lecture to the Dominican AICA on the topic of « new artistic practices in the period of emptiness : violence in contemporary art » (las nuevas prácticas artísticas en la era del vacío: La violencia en el arte contemporáneo).
