Le travail artistique d’Alexandre Arrechea se centre sur l’interrogation critique de la structuration de la société définie par un système de surveillance et contrôle permanents qui induit une perte d’intimité et une uniformisation croissantes. Cette structuration est surtout influencée par les jeux de pouvoir qui se font jour à tous les niveaux sociaux et qui font rentrer les individus dans un système de soumission à l’ordre et aux règles.

Le monde d’Arrechea est une plongée dans les hiérarchies du pouvoir, du contrôle et de l’intériorisation de ces contraintes. Par ses pièces, il pousse le public à réagir et s’interroger sur ses propres interactions avec ce système.

Graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) of Havana, Cuba (1994).

He was a founding member of the art collective Los Carpinteros and was part of it between 1991 and 2003, moment when he decided to dedicate himself to his individual career.

Alexandre Arrechea answered to our questions in Havana during the 11th Biennial, as well as in the framework of our special report on the exhibition Who More Sci-Fi than Us at the Kunsthal KAdE in Amersfoort, The Netherlands – guest curated by Nancy Hoffmann, and for which we interviewed participating artists. Alexandre Arrechea took us to his sources of inspiration and shared his experiences in exhibiting in public or private spaces (galleries). He described the rational at the origins of his choices in selecting materials and of his process of creation.
