Graduated in art history  from the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands (1978).

Between 1978 and 2009, Adi Martis was associate professor of art history at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands.

He was part of the association AiR ART of the international airport of Aruba, in charge of organising cultural events within the airport premices.

Adi Martis regularly intervenes in symposiums, like on the artworks of Kurt Nahar and Remy Jungerman at the Readytex Art Gallery of Paramaribo, Suriname (2011).

Adi Martis is co-author of the book ARTE : Dutch Caribbean Art¸ with Jennifer Smit, KIT Publishers, 2001 ; author of Paul De Nooijer, Uitgeverij Focus, 2009 ; redactor for Het Bedrijfsfotoboek 1945-1965, Uitgeverij, 2010 (on photography in The Netherlands).

His articles swere published in the magazine Kunstschrift.

He wrote the essay Double Black for the exhibiton catalogue of Black is Beautiful : Rubens to Dumas at De Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2008).
