Abelardo Mena | Cuba
Graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Havana, Cuba (1985), he is completing his Ph.D in Art History at the University Pablo de Olavide in Sevilla, Spain.
Abelardo Mena is member of the AICA (International Association of Art Critics) and of the AAM (American Museum Association).
Abelardo Mena first was a professor at the Instituto Superior de Arte of Havana, the ISA. Then he started his career of curator for French Art at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes of Havana. Since then, he is curator for the international collection of contemporary art of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes. In this framework, he has curated the following exhibitions : From Picasso to Keith Haring ; European and Cuban Landscapes: XV-XX Centuries or French Engravings, XVI-XX Centuries.
Abelardo Mena has curated, as an independent, the following exhibitons :
Uprooted Transmigrations at the PanAmerican Art Projects in Miami, USA (2011) and co-curated the travalling exhibition Contemporary Cuban Art from The Farber Collection (2007-2010) – for which he edited the catalogue of the show : Cuba Avant-Garde: Contemporary Cuban Art from The Farber Collection, University of Florida Press, USA (2007).
